Though the 2022 Nissan Pathfinder has not yet arrived here at Hall Nissan Virginia Beach, anticipation is building as we learn more about the upcoming model. The large, family-friendly SUV checks all the boxes with its thrilling combination of powertrain heft, interior space, and reassuring safety features.

Savvy buyers will likely wish to compare the 2021 Nissan Pathfinder to other large SUVs like the Toyota Highlander. Here is a side-by-side comparison.

Interior

This Nissan SUV is known for having a large and comfortable cabin perfect for large families. With three rows, the Pathfinder offers vast space for seven or eight along with the convenience of EZ Slide second-row seats, which make it easy to jump in back, even when you have a car seat attached. Or, you can opt for personalized comfort and seating for seven, with second-row captain’s chairs.

In total, the interior second row legroom in the Nissan Pathfinder is 41.7 inches, while the Toyota Highlander falls short at 40 inches. The total passenger volume in the Pathfinder is 154 cubic feet, with the Highlander again behind at 141.3 cubic feet. The EZ Slide seats are also a Nissan-exclusive interior feature.

Powertrain

When you have such a large and powerful SUV at your disposal, towing and off-road driving becomes a reality. Indeed, the Pathfinder includes a new Intelligent 4x4 system with Terrain and Drive Mode selector, as well as a new nine-speed automatic transmission. The powerful engine allows you to tow up to 6,000 lb.

The Toyota Highlander also has a V6 engine, but its 5,000-lb towing capacity falls short of the Nissan Pathfinder.
