The Nissan Foundation was founded in 1992 in response to major civil unrest that was occurring at the time near Nissan’s former headquarters in Southern California. This civil unrest was sparked by the verdict in the Rodney King trial. Following the mission of building community through the value of cultural diversity, The Nissan Foundation annually awards grants to organizations offering programs that inform, inspire, and celebrate diversity. In the 26 years since its establishment, The Nissan Foundation has awarded a total of more than $10 million to approximately 120 different organizations nationwide.
